The History of Tattoos (part 1) is a look at an art form whose origins date back more than 5000 years.
Join us as talk about how unheard of it was in the western hemisphere, how it’s reported to have been ‘discovered’, how popular it became, then how “frowned upon” it was and then, today, how popular it is once more.
Whatever your opinion is of those who choose to get inked, there’s no denying it’s always been there in the background and probably always will be. And it’s very, very popular.
We'll also wander into what "getting inked" might mean to a person, what it meant to both of us before we got our respective ones done & how likely it is that we'll do it again (spoiler alert: it's very likely).

In the second part of our Action Park extravaganza, we continue to look at the absolute train wreck that Action Park was. The much loved water theme park, located in Vernon, New Jersey, was an infamous amusement and water park known for its extreme and often dangerous attractions.
Opening in 1978 and operating through the mid-1990s, it gained a notorious reputation due to the high number of injuries and fatalities among its visitors.
The park featured rides that defied conventional safety standards, such as the Cannonball Loop, a waterslide with a full vertical loop, and the Alpine Slide, a concrete track that caused numerous abrasions and fractures and at least one death, despite what Action Park officials said.
Lax regulations, poorly trained staff, and an emphasis on thrill-seeking contributed to its legacy as one of the most hazardous amusement parks in history.
Despite its closure, Action Park remains a symbol of the reckless, adrenaline-fueled spirit of its era, remembered both for its exhilarating attractions and the considerable risks they posed.

The Bone Wars

Friday Mar 15, 2024

Friday Mar 15, 2024

The Bone Wars, also known as the Great Dinosaur Rush, was a period of intense scientific rivalry between paleontologists Edward Drinker Cope and Othniel Charles Marsh in the late 19th century. Both men were eager to discover and name as many new dinosaur species as possible, and their rivalry turned into a bitter and often unethical competition.
The Bone Wars involved the discovery and excavation of numerous dinosaur fossils in the American West, particularly in states like Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana. Cope and Marsh spared no effort in outdoing each other, resorting to tactics such as bribery, theft, and sabotage to gain advantage in the field of paleontology.
Their rivalry ultimately led to significant advancements in dinosaur paleontology, but it also tarnished their reputations and strained the resources of scientific institutions. The Bone Wars came to an end with both men's financial ruin and damaged legacies, but their discoveries continue to contribute to our understanding of prehistoric life.
